  • ATF Change ??

I,m gettin into the swing of servicing the surf myself now, just undertaking 1 different job per weeked to sort out how it's done. I then reckon by the time it needs its next full service i would have attempted and sussed out all the jobs, so won't be scatching my head trying to figure out what goes where ............ any way this weekends job is ATF change :-

    What i know :-
    #1 use dextron 2
    #2 change when fluid warm
#3 it wont drain all the oil.
    #4 fill by dipstick tube.
#5 check levels with engine warm and engine running after just moved changer through all gear settings.

    what i DONT know, is

#1 do i just drain out of the sump plug
    #2.do i remove sump tray
#3.do i replace filter, if so where do i get one from (cant find any aftermarket ones)
#3 how much dextron 2 am i gonna need
im not going to attempt the disconecting hoses and 2 bucket route.
sorry for the dumb ass questions, but its the only way im gonna learn

    cheers

You can do. I didn't want to do the two hose routine becuase it would have meant getting the air con rad out of the way.

I removed the AT sump, after draining most of the oil out, then spun the engine over, with the handbrake on and went quickly thro the gears. It makes a helluva mess but I reckon it gets another couple of litres of oil out.

The filter is a magnetic type (like stainless steel scourer). Just take it out wash with petrol and return.

Can't remember now but there is a fluid capacity chart in the FAQs section.

I was a total spannerphobe until I got the Surf. I do it all myself now, unless it's tracking or something that requires specialist equipment. I've got a general service down to 1hr 40mins. Took me nearly all day the first time!!!!!

Tip: Buy a big bag of cat litter from the supermarket. It soaks up oil spils really well and costs much less than the granules from a motor factors.

    Good Luck
    It's only a hobby!
