  • is this right?

Hi, I had just decided to trade in my 2.4 for a newer 3.0 surf and mentioned it to a diesel specialist and he said that Toyota 3lt engines all have a problem with the injectors - something about the metal at the bottom being too soft and they wear the hole away and drop through. Has anyone experienced this with their 3ltr?

Nothing as terminal as that, ours where in need of a rebuild with new nozzles at 70,000miles, but it still ran, just had a rubbish spray pattern. Good idea to be servicing them at that sort of milage anyway.

Couldn't say, but I thought they are the same basic motor, but if its a known fault, it should have been sorted by then, ours is a 94' 3.0.

I'm not saying its a issue with injectors, just we had to do ours, so thought it worth a mention. The only way to be sure is to get them tested, I did it cos the MPG went down hill. Didn't notice any drop in performance though.

If they get as bad as the injector valve falling out, its not gonna have been running very well for ages!!, it only takes a small variation in spray pattern for things to play up, bad MPG, smoke, no acceleration, etc.

        relax, don't panic.

*edit* just remembered, my mate had a UK 3.0 4Runner that was on 120,000 last I heard, and still on its original injectors...
