The alternator on my 96 gen3 is not charging the batteries so have to take it off ,taken out the top bolt and unbolted the main power line, can't get the exciter plug off the back, started to get to dark to work , will have a go at the bottom bolt tomorrow, I presume I need to slacken off the belt adjuster I can see on the side , anybody out there got any tips please.

Well I got the alternator off, but due to the fact the alternator was jammed on the swivel due to corrosion I had to remove the air con compressor so I could get a jemmy between the alternator and the bracket and ease the two apart , pick it up tomorrow, repaired.

All refitted and ok, nothing actually wrong with the alternator other than very worn brushes , replaced and a grumbling rear bearing also replaced cost me £30.00 in total with 6mths guarantee , the guy has now done my Soarer and GS430 both of which cost £60.00 which included a new diode pack ,with 12mths
guarantee.
So in conclusion I think the problem may have loose belts.
