No, I don't think so, I did't when I removed mine. Just screwed the mountings back into the ECU box and plugged the three connectors back in.

Always safer to disconnect negative terminals if removing/replacing any ECU or doing anything electrical.

ECU No Overdrive problen solved

Hi Tash

just to let you know what happened ECU problem.

Registered with a breaker on Ebay and out the blue two weeks ago he sent me a message saying he had got one for me £50.00. It was out of K reg Surf. Yesterday took the old one off...as per Nev's instructions removed the neg. earth connections first....then fitted the new ECU. Bingo Overdrive back. After inspecting my duff ECU ..no caps blown. Must be something else in there gone wrong. Anyway she runs smooth as a whistle now no high revs etc.
