AT Oil light.

My AT Oil Temp light has come on a couple of times in the last few days.
Checked the level and with a hot engine it is on HOT and with the engine just ticking over its on COOL.
Do I need to top it up ?
If so, is it full when its at HOT on tick over ?

Hi,

There should be two notches in the COLD range and two in the HOT range. Test it with the engine nice and hot (and running!): it should then read somewhere near the higher notch for HOT, if you know what I mean.

I have no notches, just the words HOT and COLD.
With a hot engine and the engine running the oil level is on COLD.
Are you suggesting I should top it up (with the engine running) until the level reaches HOT ?

Yes, I think it needs topping up. Or even better remove the old ATF and replace with fresh Dextron II. Search the forum for instructions, very easy job. The 3rd Gen's dipstick has notches in it so it gives you a 'range', like the engine oil dipstick.Cheers
