  • 3.0 litre surf oil

Is there anyone from North America that has a 3 litre surf? What oil are you using? Sorry for the European buds but we can't get the oil you use here in Canada. I can get a ch4 0w30 full synthetic but using 0w40 grade 4 pao full synthetic oil that is rated cj4 right now. I wish we had the selection you guys have over seas but we are kind of limited. What is it about these little motors that make them have to use not run of the mill oil. My diesel cummins could run on molasses and wouldn't care. Opinions ?

Can't help I'm afraid, but I'm also surprised the oil spec is hard to find - it's bog standard off the shelf stuff here, nothing exotic - 10w40 semi synthetic diesel oil is as available as ketchup?

      Try Cat DEO.
Not heard of a diesel engine dying on that stuff yet.

I think you need to contact some users in Canada/North America.
Your climate in Canada is much more extreme than ours in the UK. We can use a semi 10W40 all year round and it is very commonplace here. You may need to run a lower grade oil in the winter so it gets up to the OHC quickly after start-up and a higher grade in summer.

Also try and find the highest ash oil that you can, hopefully something with a Jaso DH1 spec. Most of the USA oil is low ash - probably the oil designed for stationary engines or tractors might be a better bet. 0w40 is v low visc for a 1kz-te, only run that if it's really really cold.
