  • Replacing cracked head.

So, after running around with a cracked head for over a year (thought it may have been just a blown gasket) on my 3l td i've finally gotten around to getting it sorted. My question is what parts is it recommended to change other than the head. I'm replacing the radiator as that had split near the pressure cap, does anything else need replacing.

I had already got a head on the way (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2819137352...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) i'm hoping as it's a new one and not a refurbished and a unipart one it should be ok, sort of worried though because of how cheap it is compared to rough trax.

Change the timing belt and tensioners at the same time and the water pump, also if not already done remove or block off the EGR valve

I'm in the process of fitting a new head and the carbon build up in the manifold was terrible I had to burn it off so it will stop that. Not sure if you blank it from both manifolds and block the vac pipe can you lose the whole valve??
              I suppose so.

my mechanic didn't raise any problems with it, the only thing we noticed was the side walls of the cam box were thicker than the original, only time will tell whether it was a good or bad buy but as don't do much more than 1500 miles a year it could be awhile before i know.

I bought a new head and all the new fixings / gaskets etc off e-bay last year, cost £600.00, i also had new drive belt, radiator and water pump fitted, I travel about 500 miles a month and have experienced no problems certainly no loss of water good take off and acceleration, so am well pleased.

mine was £415 delivered with gaskets and head bolts, tried getting a price for just the built up head as i'd already bought a full gasket set and head bolts but no joy.
