Quick Tailgate window Relay question

Hello there, my Tailgate window is only working one way, I've searched this forum which led me to check wiring but this seems okay, I now suspect the Tailgate window relay!

I have a second gen Surf 1995 but would anybody have any idea if any Hilux Surf Gen 2 Window Relay would suffice as I have found a second hand one for a (TOYOTA GEN 2 HILUX SURF 1989-94) or do I need one from the exact same year as mine?

does it work on the key both ways or just one way on the window switch inside the cab?
Is the window lock button depressed.?

ha I read that account here during my search, no the window lock isn't on and the window goes down on both the key and the cab button but not up!

Thanks for your suggestion, oh I also checked the rear widow wiper was properly seated too....

Hi I have a 1991 surf and had same trouble so I got a relay off ebay sorted the switch in the car but still had trouble with tailgate switch I removed the cover on tailgate removed back off switch there was 2 wires broken so I got a switch wire and connector from ebay off jap 4x4 cost £38 it fits onto back of the ignition swich in tailgate not had time to fit it yet but I'm sure that's the problem.

Logan the relay from any 2nd gen 3.0 or 2.4 will fit

Hi I bought the relay off ebay from jap4x4part look for him he will tell you what part you need . I bought a switch off him a couple of weeks ago that fits to rear of barrel in tailgate the one you put key in just done that and window works fine if it only goes one way inside cab it is most likely relay but it now works on both send jap 4x4 part a email he will help de runs a breaker yard at East london but will post

My window only went one way, it fixed itself and in think it was because of the park switch on the rear window

Tailgate rear window switch

Hi I have a Ln130 Surf 1991.The rear window goes up and down fine. most of the time, but now whilst the control switch works inside the car. The tailgate key operated switch on the back of the car fails to work, any ideas please?

Probably worn contacts on the key barrel.
Someone on here stripped out the switch and remade the connections.

Hi yes I had the same thing with my truck, it's a yellow plastic switch goes behind the tailgate ignition switch that controlled the tailgate window winder it has wires that goe to the ltailgate winder I got mine from jap4x4parts on eBay about £40 or 45 secondhand I think his name was Steve he's very helpful when you come to fit it its behind the window if you can fit it with the window up lay in back if not you will have to remove window winder and glass . Hope this helps
