3ltr 2nd gen auto box in a 3rd gen

Right lads some knowledgeable info is required please.
Does anyone know if the auto gearbox from a 3lts gen 2 will fit in a gen 3?
A couple days ago the transmission started to make a slight winding noise when in 1st gear,it was fine in all other gears. Now it wont shift into reverse, unless your giving it some gas then it bangs in, as soon as you get off the throttle it knocks out.
I'm also open to suggestions of what is going wrong

In my experience of all kinds of cheap runabouts unless you can get a known good second hand box from a very trusted source your often better off coughing up the cash to have a broken one looked at if you can spare your truck for a while and plan on keeping hold of it.

have a look at some vids and see if you can find one that might give you a clue as to whats up with yours.

Worth popping the sump of it first chap...I had an old ford did that and it turned out to be dirty valve body, strip and clean later all sorted.
