Have you checked that you are getting voltage at the glow plugs rail?

we've got a Rangey P38 with bad plugs (new ones waiting to go in).

You can get around it by repeatedly turning on the ignition, waiting for the light to go out, then flicking off before turning back on and repeating the glow plug heating routine several times in a row (about 5 or 6 times for us), before actually cranking the engine. Attempting to start straight away will result in a flat battery like your truck. Useful workaround for you hopefully.

Thanks, this has been the way I have got it to start at the moment but sometimes even this is a hit or a miss!!

I have just rebuilt a P38 the V8 fires first time every time, mind you I have fitted twin batteries to the P38 like the Surf has.

i love rangeys (although the latest ones are becoming gin chariots), just dodgy electrics and the V8s so ###### thirsty. Our 97 is till in great nick. Got a tuning box on the BMW diesel lump and it's quite poky now.
