Hi Alan, I had a similar juddering in my truck when i bought it, but i felt it more through the floor than the steering. It was the front brake discs that had warped . I just replaced mine with new; £58 for a pair, (fast parts motor accessories) but some garages will resurface them for you for around £40. hope this helps.
    regards Vince.

I've just sorted mine. Not knowing how bad the pads/shoes were when I bought it I got a set of each from Milners at 12.50 and 25 respectively. However, as I also had the judder I also ordered a set of discs at 27.50 each.

Swapping the pads is easy, discs are a little more tricky due to the bearings etc. As soon as this was done it was a lot better but there was still a little judder.

When doing the shoes I took my drums down to a local brake specialist and had them skimmed for a tenner each. I also completely flushed the old brake fluid with new.

Everything is perfect now as I've done the full monty on it. It cost me a little over a ton, but at least I know everything's sorted.

Bear in mind that quite often shoes/drums and discs/pads wear together so it's worthwhile doing discs/pads and/or shoes/drums together.
Everything's easy, when you know how!

Is it hard to change the pads/discs on a 2nd Gen 3.0 ltr could someone provide a runthrough - this would be great - I took my Surf into a brake specialist and they said the discs were warped so would like to replace them - is it something i can do?

          Cheers

It's a realy easy job, as long as you don't mind getting you hands dirty.
Takes about 25 mins each side. See scan of front hub assembly, should be self explanatory.

25 mins each side! did your clock stop ?? give your self at least an hour, an impact driver helps as you need to remove the disk from the hub, also theres the small nuts & collets at wheel side of the hub.

25 mins, maybe with one hand tied behind my back! Marky you must be on an hourly rate!

Took about an hour a side for me too, but then again I'm no mechanic. Just got to make sure you lie everything down as it comes off or it'd be a real b'stard.

Remember to give the discs/drums a good clean before you put them on as commonly they come with a thin layer of protective wax on them.
