Hmm possibly, if it was staying engaged then it would be spinning at the rpm of the motor which would very quickly burn it out would it not?
Have had the truck for 6 months now with no issues ever starting...

I really have no idea, just trying the think of anything moving in the area you describe in the hope a brain wave strikes!

Though a starter wouldn't be under any load under those conditions so little current flowing through it...bearings wouldnt like it much I would imagine.

      Good luck.

Found this on another thread which sounds like it might be the same as your squeal, mine did it for ages sometimes squealing sometimes not. never increased in volume or changed pitch. haven't noticed it for a while so hoping mine "cured itself?!" If it comes back I will try this though, hope it helps. mine ended up being referred to as Miss Piggy/ Deliverance and any other squealing pig analogies you can think of!

After doing some more research, this appears to be a common fault on 1kzte engine.
I came across the same issue on australian pradopoint and then on UK land cruiser forum too.

There is spring type valve on the fuel pump that needs to be adjusted.
It sounds like an easy fix. I will try this on my surf as soonest i get a chance and i will post the results.

In the mean time please see the original thread with pics and info. Thanks
