It's just sticking through lack of use.
Have tried driving forwards and backwards to see if it engages?

At the risk of sticking my ore in where it's not needed, when a garage says "we think it's the ECU", that can be translated to "we have no idea but don't want to look useless". Just my 2p...

As they cant test the ECU i think its a fair comment they have given me a name of a 4x4 specialist who can test it and reset it he thinks. But without wishing to sound rude i am 63 past the days of crawling under cars and reg.disabled so i have no choice than to listen to there advise m8.Will post how things go when its checked.

            It won't be the ECU!

It's either the electric actuator motor on the rear of the transfercase, or a vacuum problem.

There's copper tracks in side the motor that become corroded and pitted through lack of use which prevents the transfercase engaging the front diff, hence the flashing icon on the dash.

If there's a problem with vacuum supply, the diaphragm on the front diff won't pull the collar across to lock the front driveshafts together. , which will also case the flashing dash icon.
Make sure the VSVs (Vacuum Switching Valves) near the passenger side headlight are getting power/vacuum.

If the ECU is connected to a dianostic program on a computer will that not show what the fault is?.They want £35 to to do that.I dont know what the garage checked as i was unable to collect 4x4 a mate picked it up for me and did not ask they just suggested that the ECU be checked m8.

Again, it won't be the ECU.
It's basic function is to read speed signals from the gearbox to prohibit 4WD engagement at high speeds.

Ty Bushwacker but im at the garages mercy really they insist on checking ECU and not being able to do the job myself i dont think there is much i can do i tried to talk them out of checking the ECU but the reply i got was we are specialist in import 4x4 we do know what we are doing. If the ECU doesnt show the fault they wont charge for checking that part.Unless there is someone near to me who knows what there doing and want the job for Cash ill listen to them.

well some time has passed not heard anything from garage where i left all the info i printed out from here last time i spoke to them they said they had not had time to read info that was 2 weeks ago not heard anything since.
Another garage changed the 4 wheel drive ECU that cost me 120.00 worked for about 2 miles and dash wheels and dif lock are flashing again.Im totally peed orf now think i may sell it and treat it as a lesson learnt.

Just a comment: when not used for a while the 4wd engagement becomes lazy. This morning I pressed the 4wd switch and it flashed like yours for about one km before it engaged. It always happens if I don't used it for a while. Have you given it enough time and reversed it as previously suggested?Sometimes it takes a long time. Good luck

Still, at least they are specialists in import 4x4s and know what they're doing.

Yes mate done all the reversing tricks.
just wish i was fit enough to get and follow the guides on here but i cant do that so im thinking of selling as no one i have been too seems to know what they are doing so much for so called mechanics and specialist.
