  • Rusty Tailpipe

Noticed today the tailpipe on my Surf has rusted through where the support bracket is welded on.
Rattling and whistling like James Gallway on acid.

    What's my best solution?

Replace or fix the pipe.. Or is a S/Steel exhaust available off the shelf?

I'm fed up with the exhaust parts failing every year

I find welding exhausts up cost effective until it goes again somewhere else and you have to repeat the remove and re fit procedure!!

Ive repaired my big silencer after replacing it so i have a spare now

For the cost I'd definitely be looking at replacing, in fact that's exactly what I did - weld repair is only postponing the inevitable.

I bought a new rear section for my Gen 3 off eBay three months ago for £47.85 delivered.......surely hardly worth getting out of bed for that kind of money.

I have a custom Poweflex stainless system on my truck, been on for over 6 years now and is still in perfect condition. This was fitted by the previous owner so I have no idea what the cost was but I don't think it was that expensive. Do a Google search for your closest Powerflex fitting centre.

        Cheers

          Custom Exhaust

You should be able to get a nice custom side exit stainless exhaust for around £200 fitted which is less than half the cost of an original toyota exhaust supplied only!

Just a thought, if it is failing that often and not "properly goosed" are all your engine / box mounts in good condition?

Nope everythings fine it's just they rust.

I've googled Stainless exhausts for Nottingham but can't see anything that makes me want to give them a go.

I'm sure theres one close to home.
I will have to go take a look

                I've contacted a local firm P D Gough.
Got to take the truck round early in the morning so they can take a look.
If they quote me happy I will share

Well it looks like a non starter!
They charge good money for a high class job.
So it's back to eBay for a pattern part

Well call me a cheapskate but I got the pipe patched up.

After removing it from the truck I could see the only corrosion was the hole where the bracket used to live.

My friendly mechanic welded a patch and reattached the bracket for FREE.

After a bit if paint on the weld it's back on the truck

                    All good again

But not to let me off the hook completely she wouldn't start
Needed a 69p bottle of water for one of the batteries and a JumpStart to get her going.

I think she's telling me I need to show the love

Nope, 'she' is telling you you're a tightarse!
I hope that bottle of water wasn't Evian.
