I'm hearing a strange, intermittent ticking from behind the dash at 50-60mph - sounds rather like a relay operating. Any thoughts or suggestions please?

Varmartin: that's it exactly! Same position, same noise. Kicks in intermittently at 50-60mph. It has to be a relay of some kind. Surprised none of our experts know what it is.
Mine has a "Ryder Super Smart Combi" add-on control unit bolted to the driver's side inner wing in the engine compartment; apparently it controls voltage to the accessory plug beside the trailer hitch, to stop the battery being flattened by your trailer's fridge, oven, etc. May be that but I don't think so... unless you also have one of these control units, varmartin?

Hi, I don`t have a tow bar on my Surf so it cant be that control unit ( well not on mine any way ) ??
I have not noticed any thing not working or any intermittent faults yet either ? ....
I do have some kind of `spot light ` control unit tucked up in there, and an additional round switch with a red LED built into it.
So at some point it has had an `add on` accessory fitted , may be that ?
I will take a look soon when not working. Trouble is it only does it at 50-60 mph ...:MARTIN

Mine came with spots on the bull bar but I removed them as they weren't wired up. Also a red switch under the dash that doesn't do anything - maybe mine also has a spot light control unit? Interesting too that both Surfs are the same age, same model.
I've some new instrument panel LEDs coming so I'll have a closer look when I get the dash apart and report if I find anything interesting/significant.
