  • Is there a knack to removing the front wiper arms?

What should be a 5 min job of replacing the front wiper arms has turned into the inevitable rust battle. Rust! FFS!

It's on one of the flange and spline (this right?) nuts. So patiently waiting for WD40 to work its magic.

The drivers side nut came loose as it should have. No rust etc. But it's stuck fast (arm on shaft). Not much opportunity for brute force as the delicate wing and paint surrounds it.

Anyone got any "experienced dude" tips regarding the arms?

Also...I'll need to source a new flange and spline nut.

Looks like my lovely refurbed arms are going to have to wait a bit longer

Get yourself a smaller puller from halfords or similar , takes all the hassle out of it.

Yeh...was thinking that. Was just hoping to do something on the truck that didn't mean more money

Although, if I have to buy a tool...it aint too bad if I can re-use on other things. I'm after a ball joint puller but that would be too big for this job. Maybe...maybe not.

Might see if I can knock something up.

        A massive drive and £12.

        Negates the whole refurb angle.

If it fits fine. I had the same on my old 2.4. I just levered them off. i put a thick piece of plastic under where the pry bar would touch the paint work.
          Non intercooled nothing.

            Hi Sy,

When I took them off had the same problem, WD40, left over night and gave them a wiggle the following day and they fell off. It was sunny so that may have helped.

            I might have the nuts....

Oh and if you really do end up levering them off, the decorative scuttle panel that surrounds them is only held on by 3 possy screws and a couple if clips along the bonnet edge, hooks under the screen rubber.

              Cheers, guys

I've just bodge fabbed a separator out of an old bracket I found lying around.

Slipped too much so I'll tweak it for tomorrow. But it's decent

They're sitting in WD40 so hopefully the night will help.

The passenger nut was so bud it's now a size smaller (after cleaning) and needs mole grips. So that's going to take a long soak.

The driver side nut was sweet...but the arm is stuck fast. Bent my separator a little.

So yeh, as said...a night in the soak for both.

If that fails I will remove the panels and lever it off.

Andy...if you could check for that nut that would be awesome. They're canny unique. Not the usual flange jobbies.

              Cheers all above

Apart from a bit of tapping when wiggling it off, try and get some pull on it, whilst it is being wd40'd. You might go to it in the morning, and find it has pipped off overnight...go on..get back out there and take pictures.

I think someone's probably already patented a turd!

But it's a good effort from scrap.

Yep...nuts would be spot on, mate.

Just ping me an email with the cost etc

A bit late I know but, I used a flaring block to pop mine off.
