Turbo Studs

Not sure if mine were original but they had flat heads on them and were spot welded on so I just cut them off and put new bolts through.

Can the studs be drilled through or are they captive on the 3.0TD?

They are not captive if I remember correctly. I cut the end off with a grinder and the studs fell out so you are left with the holes to either put new studs in or nut and bolts.

I think thats right anyway I remember cutting at least one stud out; the others might even have just been bolts. I don't remember exactly unfortunately I was too busy with the rest of the engine.

The exhaust unbolted no problem but was advised to replace the studs soon. So with the exhaust off the access looks ok? The access looks ok but whats the best method to remove them? Lots of heat? Penetrating oil?

I guess you've done the job by now, but you can buy a stud removal tool...

Well, I have one and used it on the studs to the exhaust manifold bracing bracket (the one that looks like an 'A') and it was fine....the more you twist it the tighter it gets...

Stud Removal

I'm going to order one of those as they are always handy to have but does anyone know if the 2.0TD turbo studs can be drill right through and through bolts used in their place?
