  • KZJ70 3.0TD Manifold Stud Removal

I have a KJ70 which shares the same engine & turbo as the 3.0TD 4runner/Surf Hilux

Does anyone have any tips on removing the Manifold Stud bolts? I have had a new stainless steel side exit exhaust fitted but I would like to renew the manifold studs as the old ones were re-used.

What success have other forum members had removing the studs from the 3.0 litre turbo diesel?. With the wheel off it looks like there is enough access to get in but I thought I would see if anyone has done it before with success?

Access seems pretty easy with the wheel removal but I've heard these can be quiet brittle.

You could unbolt the turbo and pull the lot out. Then do it on a bench.

I couldn't unbolt my exhaust from the turbo when lifting the engine out so I had to separate, lift the engine out then take the turbo out with the down pipe attached out through the bay. Once it was out i got the grinder and cut them off. I replaced with nut and bolts instead.

Where did you get the exhaust from?
If its not broke don't fix it.

The exhaust unbolted no problem but was advised to replace the studs soon. So with the exhaust off the access looks ok? The access looks ok but whats the best method to remove them? Lots of heat? Penetrating oil?

I'll be in touch mate cos I really want mine doing at some point & it's always good to see the workmanship before hand.

                          Cheers.

Not sure if mine were original but they had flat heads on them and were spot welded on so I just cut them off and put new bolts through.
