  • What does the red button do?

Just bought a 94 surf. Not got a manual. What does the red button in front if the auto gear selector do?

    Someone must know.
Have you tried typing red button into the search box above?

Oh shit...you're about to get torn to shreds!

It seems to be a forum in-joke. It's been asked that many times.

Before the "use the search" and "check the related links at the bottom of this thread*" come...here is your answer:

It's a shift lock button. It allows you to shift the gear lever without the need for the ignition to be on or your foot on the brake pedal.
*always seemed a weird one to throw at someone as they don't appear until you've actually made the hideous crime of posting a thread!

People spend more time, on this ageing forum, typing their sarcasm and bitching than typing the answers.

It puts the gearbox in an immobilised state and you will have to buy a new one
well, that was a bad idea!

                How true...

Good job I gave him the answer he was seeking. Otherwise I'd feel real bad, right now.
