  • Brake pad set for KZN185 - where from?

It appears that RoughTrax don't do genuine Toyota rear shoes and the Milners site seems to be down at the moment. Anywhere else that might be recommended?

Also, any top tips for changing the pads and shoes would be greatly appreciated. Anything to watch out for, be aware of? I haven't done a pad/shoe change for about 20 years. And that was on a 1974 VW Beetle 1303. Actually, thinking about it, that might have been drums all round cos the brakes were sh!te! But anyway.....

I've seen shoe retaining kits and fitting kits available too. Are they worth getting? A must, perhaps?

If you need tips, don't do it.

Just a thought - Technically, that was a tip

Thanks Albannach. I just like doing a bit of research before diving in. I've done it to other cars in the past so unless the Surf is very different or needs specialist knowledge only procured from a wise old man sitting at the top of a mountain in Japan, I reckon I'll be ok. I appreciate your concern, though. And you have my permission to laugh and point when I f*ck it up and come back to the forum to ask how I put it right.

The Arnold Clarke Toyota dealer in on welington road in Aberdoom can get any parts for the Surf. I've used them a few times for parts and they've been spot on, just call up with your chassis number.

Nice one, thanks Cabbage. Are they reasonably priced? I was going to have a look in Autoparts in Inverurie, too, but I do only want genuine Toyota ones; it's not worth mucking about with anything less than top quality for brakes.

I did buy some parts that Rough trax also sell (can't remember what the part was now) but the Arnold Clarke price and Rough Trax price was the same for the genuine toyota part. Just call the arnold clarke parts desk number on there website and make sure you have your chassis number to hand.

Although I do try an support local companies where I can I have been disapointed with Autoparts "parts desk" before so wouldn't use them if looking for specific parts for any car, defo wouldn't even bother with an import! There good if you're looking for generic hoses/fittings/batteries and the like and I get most of that sort of thing from them.

Thanks again. Might just give Autoparts a miss for the pads, then. I did see they've got a MASSIVE range of oil in there, though, so I'll pick some of that up anyway. I've already got the air, oil and fuel filters and a sump plug and washer from RoughTrax.
