  • chip or programmer for 1996 3.0 Surf?

    Hi all,

I'm just wondering what options are out there for a chip or programmer that I could order? I've seen a few older posts, or perhaps just don't know what names to search for.

I'm in Canada, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

These engines rely on very little electronics. You can't re-map them or anything. You can make a VERY careful adjustment to the fuel pump and if you wanted fit an intercooler for good gains.

Fit an aftermarket temperature gauge before you do anything and make sure the cooling system is in very good condition.

Yeah, the engines are basically on or off switches. There is nothing to remap. I believe you could, if you were that way inclined, piggy-back a third-party ecu and map, along with fitting an intercooler (if you don't have one) or a bigger intercooler if you do, and then a custom manifold, then a hybrid turbo.

My neighbours work for a turbo building/rebuilding outfit, they said that is what they had seen done on Toyota diesels in Japan. Sounds like a lot of work.

Or speak to Vince about going with a Lexus V8.

I am happy with my 3.0, but out of general interest; has anyone put a 4.2 landcruiser lump in a surf?
