As growler said, and also the plastic pivot bush on the gear lever can fall apart, but it usual makes 1st hard to select too.
When you say the clutch sticks, do you mean the actual clutch, or the clutch pedal? If the pedal stays down on the floor you usually need a new master cylinder.

We had new master and slave cylinders installed a few months ago - the clutch problem isn't really a problem anymore - you just knock the pedal and it comes up. New fluid too, levels are good as well.
Any part number/links for the pivot bush?
Edit: now that you mention it 1st is difficult sometimes, but not as bad as reverse.
