i have a 94 ssrx 3ltd auto and occasionally stationary the gearbox appears to shift out of gear and when increasing the revs it comes into gear a bit sudden.
gear oil is correct and it happens if the engine temp is hot or cold

any ideas what is causing this????????

Sounds like it could do with an oil change. Mine used to be really harsh on gearchanges. Had the oil changed and it is much smoother.

BTW you cant just drain and replace it needs to be pumped through.

Auto Box Oil Change Procedure

3.0 Litre KZN-130 1993

Initial Check to determine the direction of flow through the radiator connection tubings.

Remove LH hose off steel tubing from auto box and feed into waste bucket, (old washing up bowl works well). Connect short length of hose to the tubing from the auto box and feed into the same bucket.

Start the engine and watch which hose the oil comes out of. Depending upon the result, select the side that will ensure that the oil to be drained has already passed through the heat exchanger in the radiator to make sure this gets flushed as well.

Drain the oil from the auto box sump.

Remove the sump pan, if possible.

Clean the sump pan, including the flange faces of both the pan and the auto box.

Gasket material requires an oil-free base to adhere to

Remove, clean and refit the internal filters in the auto box.

Apply gasket material to the sump pan faces.

Replace the sump pan.

Add new oil through dipstick funnel to the ‘Hot’ running level, (used a small funnel with a short length of hose).

At the heat exchanger discharge point, remove the hose at the steel tubing connection and place the rubber hose into the waste bucket.

Extend the steel tubing from the auto box up to a fill container, (a large funnel works OK), with temporary hose. Attach this container to a point high up in the engine compartment.

Must be above the auto box level to provide a 'head' to the pump suction

Start engine and eject app. 3 litres into the waste bucket. Takes about 8-10 seconds.

Monitor the colour of the oil being ejected.

Stop engine and refill the sump level to the ‘Hot’ running level through the temporary fill container.

Start engine and eject app. 3 litres into the waste bucket.

Monitor the colour of the oil being ejected.

Continue this cycle until the ejected oil becomes new oil. (Took three cycles for me).

Remove temporary fill line from steel tubing

Refit hose discharging into waste bucket back onto steel tubing to auto box.

Check and adjust the sump level.

Run the engine, engaging all gears to circulate new oil

Test run the car under load.

Check and adjust the sump level, and for possible leaks from hoses and sump pan.

i have only done 1200 miles since picking this surf up and part of the purchase price included a full service , but this probably was not part of it.

and it has only done 51000 miles
