How did I not know this! What is the name of it? I wonder if they would be interested in some waste veg oil I can get it from work.

I have just purchased a 2.8TD Shogun and they are supposed to be awful on fuel too. Hopefully it should be easy to sell on if I can bring the Hilux back to life.

      Another question!

      I think I found a rod:

      http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/63...KZ_1KZ_TE.html

      To confirm it fits?

I am just confused as on here the engine is referred to as KNZ130 but elsewhere its 1KZ-TE?

KZN130 is the body style code,
1KZ-TE is the engine code. (3.0 turbo diesel.)

Personally, I wouldn't buy a con rod from China, it'll be made of cheese.

Contact Stevo (Engine co.) he should have or be able to source a quality rod for you.

          Ah

Fair point about the rod. I emailed a couple of Surf breakers on ebay if they had any going. But of course a new one would be better. I called a local engineering company already but they have not got back to me yet.

Thanks for your help, I will give them a call.

            Biodiesel

The biodiesel place is just at he top of dean Clough where Geoff Curran Land Rover specialist used to be. They are a genuine producer and make it themselves and have batches tested. I'm off to get some tomorrow, I used about 100L so far with no probs.

            Who did your head replacement?

                I found a rod!

I contacted Stevo and he said he didn't have one. However he did give me a number to a place in Bradford and they managed to find one. It is used but I suppose it doesn't really matter; its just a lump of steel after all.

I live just outside bradford so I will definitely be going up and trying some Bio when I collect the Shogun. I plan to run it around for a bit and sell it on when I finish work on the Hilux. Will take the wheels off it too, its got some nice new BFG AT's on it.

The work was done by a mechanic my Dad knows. He said he would do the gasket for £150 so I thought it was convenient enough to leave him to it. Didn't expect to encounter all this. I will be taking it away to do the rod and put the head back on again. Hopefully I can lift the engine up enough to change the rod without having to detach it from the gearbox.

                    Auto Crankshaft Co.

I was wondering as well, I got my gasket from Roughtrax; but seen as its been used now I need another. Why not put a cheap one on? I would have thought that a cheap gasket will not tolerate heat as much as a better quality one. Meaning if it does overheat again its more likely that the gasket will blow before the head cracks.
