  • cyliner head has nealy gone!

As title my cylinder head is on its last legs after 248,000 klms, anyway iv read every thread on here on the topic I can find, and scrimping on heads seem to be a very feared subject.
I know that rough trax do a decent head and gasket set and millners are ok as long as you use a different head gasket set eg an OE set, and the really expensive ones from stevo, but that is going to right the truck off 2 fold.
So has anyone got anything good to say about ones from somewhere else cheaper?
Iv had a 30 min phone call to a guy today who sells build heads on ebay,(not that i wanted to go down that route) but a phone call is free, just to sound him out,I went for a dealer who is a mass seller business, with decent turn over and lots of feed back on heads sold.
he told me he sells about 2-3 a week of this new head he has been getting in stock for two years with no come backs at all apart from one which he said it was a install problem, but he refunded the buyer anyway, as he has a deal with his suppler to refund any faulted heads.
These also come with a 12 month warranty, with a toyota gasket set,can they really be that duff, surely more people would be just returning them and kicking off,and he would just stop selling them,as its only one item of hundreds he sells?
Im not going to buy one,(going for the millners one)just because im paranoid about heads on these, but can they be really that bad that you have to go out and spend £900 quid on a one.
there must be someone knocking out a good heads cheaper than these prices, in theory they all are china copies, just millners and roughtrax have found a good suppler.

      dam it,lol
in all fairness I know what people will say,but there is not that much data on this in the forum,(eg other head suppliers) it would be a shame there was a good fair dealer out there, with a good product but can not sell it due to people being frightened of venturing away form the 3 big sellers of heads, like I said Im not willing to risk my money or truck to add to this data, and the reason we can not build this is for the same reason.
hopefully this thread can be built on, with anyone who has gone for the other option of heads,as all lads on here over the next few years Are going to have this problem.
would the club not be interested in finding a supplier and cutting out the middle man and proceeds go to the club?
Im also in the RTOC club they do bulk buys now and then and the turn over is good for the club?just an idea as we are all going to need heads at some point as the trucks are at that age and mileage

Is that fully built up with valves / cam etc ?

If so that is a very good deal. Any chance you can get two ? (my 3.0 needs a head too)

              Rob.

I'm working on it! He is going to speak to the regional manager tomorrow,And see if a bigger discount can be made on a larger number.
It does come fully built, but no head bolts and gaskets, but still cheap

I'd be happy enough with £535 tbh - Have been saving to get the R'trax one at ~£700 as I already have the gaskets and bolts waiting as I thought the head off my old 3.0 was ok (until it was skimmed in March)

I have cash waiting so please keep me informed

                    Rob.

Me three! my 3.0l head has gone, and I'm looking at a £1500 repair bill. But I've got to get one fairly soon as I use my truck for work.

When I got a quote from Euros (through a garage friend of mine as you did) he said the head was bare so Roughtrax was cheaper in the end.

The Roughtrax kit was great and after 21 years of use it's now a super-smooth runner again!
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

Brake through! My mate has come back to me today and for a fully build head from the FACTORY, a whopping £435 yes £435 that including VAT,and this is not a head euro car parts buy,and get built up with old bits from returned heads, brand new genuin AMC head
He has been talking to the rep of AMC,and he supplys just bear heads to euro car parts for less then 300 quid and built ones at 400,(euro car parts are making £35 on this one with my mates staff discount! one off ), so I dont know if roughtrax gets this same deal but in all fairness to roughtrax though,Eurocarparts are making even more from the joe public, and you don't get gasket set or bolts or timing belt)you do with roughtrax and good stuff too.
but roughtrax don't buy the build heads, they must buy the bear ones I take it,as they ask for your old head, so there buying them in at £300(that's if thay have the same deal).
But all this makes me think why does someone just aproch AMC from the club or if you have your own fitting business, and buy direct take a 20% markup for costs which everyone would still be happy with, and make everyone in the club happy and get all the work fitting them!
Euro car parts are making just over 100% profit on these
I knew I would get to the bottom of this over priced heads for surfs,NO competition out there,I can buy a vetec head with electronics and lifting valves and fancy stuff for half the money of one of our prehistoric heads made of iron, why? because there is dozerns of people selling modern alloy heads and that drives prices down which is better for the consumer,us

Superb that she is back on the road,
Maybe euro car parts have just started doing it,as on there web site thay list a full AMC head for £811 quid, I was never going to pay that, but that's when I remembered about my mate up north ,he just got a mangers position at euro car parts, and thought its worth a shot as I'm trying to get a good head at he cheapest price, and bingo he came up trumpsL
And in turn shed a bit light on the markup some people are making on these!
I can not really knock it,that's business I guess, just wish I was making it

I prob worded it wrong sorry.
my mate works for Eurocarparts,so he get up to 50% off or cost ,all staff get this, the quote your mate has got is trade price Id say? So yeh roughtrax prob would have worked out cheaper, you need someone on the inside
I would love to get more for lads in the club which I'm going to try,but he can not use his staff discount on high price items all the time or he said he could get in trouble, but I'm sure there is a way round this some how? I'm going to speak to the buyer for euro car parts at the weekend, and see if he can get me some links with the rep at AMC
