Do you think the Castrol magnatec 10W40 A3 B4 Oil will be ok in the surf? Never had a diesel before so not sure what the best oil for it will be.

I usually use Titan XTR 10/40 semi synth as that is what comes from Milners with the filter kit. Put Comma diesel lite in this time and truck seems quieter with it.

          Cheers

            Its what Toyota use.
            Still on a mission.

Hmmmm...I just used Comma and I thought the truck seemed better..no idea why, maybe it was just happy to get rid of the old stuff.
              .... Which was nice.

Hmmm... I used to have a Ford DOHC that I treated with Mobil 1 and Slick50 every 6 months. Timing chain went at 60k.
I think Slick50 is probably worse than a waste of money.

There is lots of negative info about it on the web, and their ads are banned in the USA
Blue Corral, the manufacturers of the Slick 50 engine oil additive, have been banned by the Federal Trade Commission from making claims about reduced engine wear, increased fuel economy and lower running temperatures in it's advertising in America. The Federal Commission found the company's claims of increased performance and reduced wear were unsubstantiated, and Blue Corral has agreed to pay upwards of $20M in damages to affected customers

So slick 50 is still good for lower running temps for our surfs as they don't mention that......

I always wondered why they have not been challenged here.

                        Good read..

I will be checking the ash content in the future. The Comma oil I just used has given me better oil pressure hot or cold than the Halfords one I used before.

The Comma I used was cheaper than the lite and was recommended for older engines. Then again the guy may have been talking crap.

A heavier oil may make an engine sound quieter, it doesn't always mean it will be doing as good a job lubricating and trapping acids/soot/particulates though - may actually be the opposite.

I'm wary of any oil additive - oils are pretty specific blends of chemicals and tested for stability under load and heat as they are. I don't see how adding any random mix of chemical additives is going to contribute to the engine oil behaving as designed/tested.

Having read this and the aussie thread, I think I'll be sticking to the Toyota spec oil for now. They usually know what they're doing when they design engines and spec oils

Just done 84 sobs on oil, Mob 1 0w40 supersyn for the GSI and Castrol magnatec 10w40 a3/b4 part synthetic for the surf.

                              Toyota Engine Oil Capacities

Here are the Toyota engine oil capacities. I use Millers XFD 5w - 40 fully synthetic, 248,000 miles original engine. Head replaced 3years ago(rt), oil pressure at idle 25psi, at 2000 rpm 60psi +.
