  • In-line heater?

Just wondered if anyone has fitted an inline heater to the pipes going to the heater matrix, I've seen it done on a couple of vans, uses glow plugs to heat the coolant before it reaches the matrix. Would be handy on these cold mornings! Just wanted to know if anyone has done it and what parts were used? Thanks alan

I doubt the alternator would cope with something like that and besides, if the heater is working properly it shouldn't be needed. How about a block heater like the Canadians use. This should allow faster warm up in the mornings.

Have a look at the system fitted to Vauxhall Vivaro vans if you can, looks like it would easily lend itself to another application, basically an alloy block with an inlet and outlet water pipe and four glowplugs, I would wire it up across 2 relays so you could have mid or high settings, a double throw switch to cut in either 2 or 4 glow plugs.

Would be an idea to incorporate some sort of timing device however as I have seen these melt the alloy block and coolant hoses if they dont cut off
