What truck is it? The force is still off line, it doesn't like the cold weather.

It's not the head gasket.

Botton? If you mean button, it's the overdrive button.

EDIT - I know it's in the 3.0TD section, but that could be a fluke...

next question is 4WD related.... i no hilux trucks have a H-L4-L2 but the surf only has H-L?

A Surf (assuming yours is a 2nd gen) has H - H4 - L4

Did you check the coolant? Surfs don't have overheating issues, they have cracked head issues, which causes it to run out of coolant, then it will overheat.

If its using coolant then you have a problem.

I'm assuming it was dark when you looked at the truck, there is a big button with 4WD stamped on it on the side of the transfer lever! That switches it to 4wd, then pull the lever back for Low range.

evening all

only had my surf since yesterday and on my road test was ok with no overheating issues (temp was half way etc)

after a run in it tonight the temp gauge crept up slightly more and when i got out the car i heard a 'BOILING' noise

the truck had a new rad and water pump last year so i would like to think there not at fault. i think my next port of call is a new thermostat/rad cap and change the coolant

or am i missing the point that the head gasket has gone haha

next question is 4WD related.... i no hilux trucks have a H-L4-L2 but the surf only has H-L? also there is some kind of botton on the side of the gearshift?

any light on this?

sounds like you need a new head mate, allow about £1000.00 inc labour. or take it back to where you got it from

The button on the side of the H/L stick engages the 4wd on mine, little green light comes on on the dashboard when it engages.

It won't be the end of the world "If" ya have too spend some spondooles (about 1000) almost guarantee's ya have a great truck for the next 4-5or 6 years (subject to minor breakages off roading) n servicing of course ...

If you wanted a surf in particular, then I would get the head done as it will then be a good truck for a long while. Better the devil you know an all that.

Not the red button it's the one on the side of the H-L stick.

That's not the gearshift. That particular button selects 4wd when in H4.
