  • Damp carpet in passenger footwell

    Evening All

I changed the mats out today and found the carpet damp but not drenched. I checked the heater matrix but all seems ok (I think!) There isnt any of the usual misting or condensation in the cab. I'm gonna check again in a couple of days. I havent been through any puddles or greenlaning......

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Rust hole??...... Seriously, any rubber grommets popped out in engine bay?... Does it happen if the roads have been dry all week or weather related?

Also I had a leak in the rear seat area....the water collected in the drivers footwell!

          Rear heater??

Don't know how to create links to old threads, but I posted similar problem last year. After much investigation, tracked it down to poorly routed radio ariel lead.
If your ariel is fitted to N/S front wing like mine, the co-ax cable routes from the bottom of the ariel unit inside the wing space and downwards into the vehicle through a hole in the panel to the side of the footwell, before routing inside the cabin space to the radio.
Rain water is designed to run into the inner wing spaces and drain out behind the front wheels.
My ariel lead was allowing this water to track into the vehicle ... when I simulated it with a hose whilst trying to find the leak, I couln't believe how much water came in over a short period of time!
I remedied this by buying a co-ax extension lead, which enabled me to feed back some of the original ariel cable into the wing space and create a deep U bend in it, so that the bottom of the loop was well below the height of the hole entering the cabin space. Any rain water runs off the bottom of the loop inside the wing space.
A rubber grommet (13mm I think) for the hole is probably advisable too.
Hope this helps keep your passenger's feet dry!

Knicko a very big thank you. Its people like yourself that make forums all their worth while. It was indeed the ###### ariel lead that was an aftermarket install.

Again many thanks for saving me from taking a hammer to car
