  • Needed, specialist Surf import diagnostics, Kent?

It seems that after the local 4x4 garage drawing a blank as far as diagnosing a gearbox problem on my Gen 2 3.0, I need to ask if someone locally (hopefully) has the diagnostics to run a check on why it won't shift into top gear?Mechanical issues have pretty much been ruled out, but i'd rather not just buy a new ECU just in case that doesn't sort it; I am in Maidstone, can anyone help? Even main dealers cannot always do much with imports

They can as it's the same as a UK 4Runner, but they don't have a form with the correct boxes to tick so they don't know what to do.

Anyhoo, you need a new/replacement ECU.

It is slow getting through the gears for the first half mile when cold, then when warm accelerates up ok but won't go into o/d? bushwhacker is probably right, i will try contacting Tony but a replacement ECU looks like the way to go.. bang goes £150, even second hand- if i can get one

Try the temp sensor first, when really cold the ECU does exatly as you post, on purpose, but its only really noticable when minus temps, and only for the first minute or so.

                But it's usually the ECU.

                Try the fault codes.
