Well it wasn't just the fact that the oil was filling up, the coolant was also disappearing into the engine. All sorts of smoke would exit the exhaust, sometimes white, sometimes grey and blue as well. Garage tested it an said it was either the head or maybe even the block. The guy who bought it was just going to put a new engine in I assume.
