Yes, but I had to tow a trailer ful of batteries everywhere I went which wasn't very practical.

            Deadly Serious.....

Look at the EV Photo Album http://www.evalbum.com/ there are lots of conversions out there and the weight of the batteries is offset by the weight of all the big lumps of metal taken out, engine, exhaust fuel tanks (fuel) etc.

Electricity is far cheaper than even BIO and road tax is zero, plus I only use my truck about town where speeds rarely get above 45 but I like the 4 wheel drive option in the winter.
Plus I am getting bored with making BIO now.

I just have not seen any automatic conversions

Anyway it was just a thought.....

                  I doubt it.

The battery car evangelists tend not to take into effect the drop in capacity. Doing it cheap would probably mean using lead-acid technology, which would mean probably losing half capacity in a year or two, and then throwing several grand at a new battery 'pack'. If you were to use a more appropriate battery technology to move the weight of a Surf you'd use a lithium type which would give you less deterioration, lower weight, but at a huge initial cost (think 10's of thousands) and potentially life threatening danger if you get things wrong.

Battery cars are a dead end. If Nissan / Honda / Toyota cant make anything better than feeble and massively flawed, DIY wont produce better.

Might be easier to fit a Flux Capacitor!!
                    Now it's time to play!

I disagree Tony, the project is all about finding a way to do this efficiently not at any price.
