  • KZN185 Front wheel bearing

Does anyone have the correct part number for the front wheel bearing please? It's for a 1996 3ltr as far as i can make out it should have one double bearing not two separate taper bearings. The parts sheet i have looked at has them listed as L/H and R/H are they handed or not?
    cheers
    tony

yes mate i had seen them on roughtrax site, i was trying to find an equivalent sized better quality bearing at less money really, (being as i'm tighter than a ducks proverbial) The bearing not long since started rumbling around 55mph so i'm trying to get the info i need fairly quick.

Not one hundred percent sure of this part number.

Try Koyo bearing part number HCDU5496-6LFT.

Try Googling the above number for more info.

Hope you got a good press to install the bearing. Try without one and you are almost certain to damage it.

                Hi Nev
I do have a big bench vice and, if need be access to a VERY big hammer
I haven't found a pressed bearing that my vice wouldn't shift, but there's always a first time mate I'll have a quiet word with a mate or three and see if i can get access to a press just in case.
                cheers

Would someone mind looking at this write-up and telling me if i'm being a blind sod. as far as i can tell the front looks like it has a hub bearing and another bearing behind the drive flange yet roughtrax only list the one bearing in the kit?
am i missing something like i need another bearing as well as the hub bearing? any help please i've spent long enough trying to find a decent set of pictures to see the hub disassembled but as yet have found very little...
I have found this site..... http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,1636
could somebody verify i'm not going daft!!!!

The Roughtrax bearing is the one you want, just buy it and fit it, don't over complicate things! You may struggle without a press though.

There is only one bearing, the last picture in that thread is of the CV joint. The bearing is in the part in the pic before, behind the wheel flange, that unbolts from the hub.

Toyota list every part on the front hub as left and right, even if they are the same.

Cheers Tony that's all i needed mate... So the bearings going to be a PITA without a press? bugger!! i am going to be stuck if i can't get the bearing out with just the trusty vice, how much pressure do they normally need to push them out and put the new one in?

I once installed a bearing of this type with a huge high tensile bolt and nut and a variety of spacers and a couple of breaker bars and sockets. Never want to do that again as it took forever. Hammering this type of bearing in will damage it. A very big vice and the appropriate spacers may work. The vice would want to be a good one though. If you clean the bearing and hub and apply some lubricant to both it may work but I vote for finding someone with a press.

                          Hi Nev
I'm looking at a six ton press to buy, It should have enough grunt to do what i want hopefully! It's similar to this one but it is floor standing and only six ton not ten...
