  • Buying advice for a newbie

Hi all. So I am finally starting to get ready for an expedition to south africa. Im thinking a 3l surf would fit the bill but i am on a serious budget - no more than £2000 as an intial outlay (im expecting to have to do a bit of work on the car) and I'd ideally like to go cheaper.

I've viewed a few trucks in various states. The best of the bunch today is an ssrx with 153K km on the clock and starts up ok and idles right enough - im taking it for a test drive soon. Body work is in pretty good nick bar some very minor rust here and there. I should think the tyres need replacing apart from that it seems ok - not mint but the years account for this. He's asking £2000 with a new MOT in mind.
Is that a fair enough price? I spotted a very similar (probably better) L reg with much fewer miles in portsmouth for £1750 (just sold).
I guess the question is to whether to hold out or bite the bullet and buy.
