  • MOT Failure Help

    Hi, I have just put my Surf in for it first MOT since buying. It has failed and I am after a bit of help, I have searched on the subjects but am still a bit unclear.

    The reasons it failed were;
    • Offside Track rod end ball joint has excessive play
    • Nearside Registration plate lamp bulb not working
    • Offside Registration plate lamp bulb not working
    • Nearside front Anti-roll bar locating pin insecure

    and the advisories were;
    • Nearside front front wheel bearing has slight play
    • Offside front front wheel bearing has slight play
    • Nearside Rear front wheel bearing has slight play
    • Offside Rear front wheel bearing has slight play
    • Nearside Front lower suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint
    • Offside Front lower suspension arm has slight play in a ball joint
    • Nearside rear shock absorber has a light misting of oil
    • Nearside rear lower Shock absorber has a slightly worn rubber bush
    • Offside rear lower shock absorber has a slightly worn rubber bush
    • Front brake pad(s) wearing thin

    OK, now my questions, starting from top to bottom on the above lists

    With the track rod do I need to change the whole tie rod or is it easy enough to change just the inner or outer knackered rod?

    The anti roll bar locating pin, the garage suggested it might just need tightening does anyone know the torque settings?

    with the bearings everything is listed as front front or rear front is this a typo surley it it just rear and front bearing? Now the rear bearings will obviously need changing. Is it likley I will need to change the front bearings too or will they just need regreasing?

    The lower suspension arm ball joints, are they these; http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=16&cid=155&vid=308

    can the light misting on the rear shock be fixed or do I need to change it?

    Cheers for any advice.

    Change both rear dampers.
    Those are the lower balljoints.
    Just change the worn Track Rod End.
    The ARB thing probably won't tighten up (it's not really torqued), change the bushes or bodge a repair with washers.
    I have no idea what a rear front bearing is (ask them).
    Front bearings will adjust up easily.
    Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's
