I think all of the 3.0's had the combined ECU. It's behind the kick panel in the left of the passenger footwell.

From my recollection, the engine / gearbox functions are combined on the 3.0 ECU. If the 3rd gen is like the 2nd gen (same engine / box) then the ECU is the only ECU behind the passenger side kick panel.

The pic in the other thread appears to show separate gearbox ECU. Is that your 3rd gen?

              Hi Apache

It is a kzn 185 P reg 3.0td. If that is a 3rd Gen... I am not sure, The tail gate opens up the way. I am informed its a 3rg gen.

There is also an ECU behind the glove box that has 5 or 6 multi plugs in it.

I hope this is the one that is in the pictures, I just spent a few quid ordering one direct from Toyota!

I think we are at cross purposes here.

the one you have outlined looks like a 4x4 system ECU - this doesn't control the gearbox itself. As I said earlier, the engine / gearbox ECUs are combined on all the 3.0s I've seen / heard of.

I take it its the 4x4 system you're having issues with?

                  Hey Apache

No, its gear selection that is the issue, It is staying in first. I have disconnected the battery and reconected it an hour later, and it selects all gears fine.

Ok so it looks like its the big main ECU behind the glove box then........

I will call Toyota and cancel the 4wd unit.

                  Thanks again
