More advice required please!

Ok I have been looking to get some BFG A/T tyres but the only BFG's I can find are £150 a tyre. As I mainly drive on the road are the A/T's the best tyre to go for or should I be looking for a highway tyre? I currently have Bridgestone Duellers on my Surf, two of the tyres need to be replaced hence why I have been looking.

I think an HT tyre would be fine if you don't do any off roading. I have Avon Ranger HTs at the moment and they're as good on the road as anything I've had on a 4x4.

How do the tyres you quoted compare to the BFG's though. I have been told that the BFG's last for a really long time so it may be better to pay the extra now?

Anyone else with comments to make?

Tyre wear seems to be broadly universal regardless of brand. You'll certainly get a lot more mileage out of any of them compared to your average car tyre as the tread is much deeper to start with. I'm not a fan of the Bridgestone Duellers as I've had them on 3 trucks now and all have worn them on the edges even with perfect suspension geometry.

From my own experience, Enduro Runways are good for big mileage as are General Grabbers. HT tyres will give more grip on the road in normal conditions but will not last as long as ATs of the same brand. As always its a compromise. I've been driving around in the snow and ice in temperatures as low as -19 deg C for the last fortnight on Avon Ranger 70 HTs and have had no grip issues at all. They are also much quieter than any ATs or MTs that I've previously used.

Unless you plan on going off-road more than 20% of the time or doing some serious weekend off-roading, I'd go for HT tyres as they make the truck a much nicer drive in everyday conditions.

Took off Dunlop Grand Trek AT21's which had been fitted new to my truck when I bought it. They were crap!!
Fitted a full set of GT Radial savero HT plus, they've transformed the handling of the car on road and have got me through a good bit of mud too. Superb in the snow & winter conditions we've had recently and were only £300 fitted. I ordered from blackcircles and got them fitted locally.

Kwik Fit are doing 25% off 4 Bridgstones AT's at the moment, I bought 4 for the price of 3 some 6 years ago and the tread left is still like brand new. Deffo go for them again
