  • Top pulley seized..

KZN130 - Just checking engine mounts and noticed the top pulley with the adjuster thread - the one to the right of the aircon pump near the top left of the cam cover was not turning.
The belt is a bit loose and jumping - no doubt caused by spinning over a seized pully wheel. I managed to free up the pulley wheel for now but it's got a lot of play in it.

I undone the long threaded bolt from the top that adjusts the pulley/belt but could not get the nut on the front of the pulley wheel undo.. Is it normal direction or a reverse thread please? Have I missed something?

Does anyone know the name/part number of this pulley wheel/cost etc etc?

    Many thanks

Can't remember if it's got a specific name but it's the aircon belt adjuster pulley. Mine did exactly the same thing.

So far as I can remember I got a new one from our local Toyota dealer.

That would be the air con pump clutch assembly see here

Had a similiar issue with mine where the centre bearing seizes up Bearing

If the rest of the set-up is OK Just swap the bearing out, Centre nut is a locknut to keep the tension on the belt when set using the long threaded bolt from the top. It is a standard thread, not reversed, so anti clockwise to undo.

Thanks for the replies. The pulley that's seized is not the large one shown at around £230 but the smaller one to the right of it in the picture. Cheers

          Does your air-con still work?

If it doesn't remove the belt, problem solved.

Thanks for that. I take it just an anticlockwise nut that's tough to undo!

It does but took belt off today to stop it jumping off and taking out the fan etc etc!

I really love this forum and I come here to read threads often, just seems the only time I post is when I need advice!
