what does the rocker on the dash do with idle written on it, is it common for a surf not to have adjustable suspension i thought it was standard throughout the range, this was a ssrx ltd 3.0 ltr

    Many thanks

I have a 95 SSR-X Ltd without the adjustable suspension, most do have it but it all depends on what was specified from new.

The idle switch is normally when you need extra zap for things like a winch running from the motor, by pressing this runs the engine at little higher in the revs.

I have noticed some sockets behind the dash with no connections. These may be for my idle up and Hard/Normal suspension. bUT DASH fitted with Fog Light switches and immobilser so not investigate fully.

Do search for Idle Up Suspension settings. This topic has been brought up before especially by myself as I thought the same when I got the vehicle home.

The idle-up switch is also excellent for warming the engine prior to driving it for the first time each day, especially in cold weather. Working a diesel hard before allowing it to reach operating temp is a death sentence, and sooner or later will cost big $$$$$.

Also, some basic Turbocharger rules.... always keep the revs to a minimum for the first 30 secs after cold start to allow the Turbo bearing to become lubricated, and always wait a min or two before shutdown after a long pull (especially when towing) so the Turbo gets a chance to be cooled down gradually, to prevent cracking caused by red hot > cold too quickly.

Just some of the tricks of the trucking trade here in Australia, although our rigs have about 550 more horsepower than my 94 SSR-X Limted 3.0T Surf !!!

Remember......... It's ok to be late, just keep it upright and straight !
