  • Fitting exhaust myself?

I'm thinking of fitting two exhaust pipes myself rather than waste a heap of cash at Kwik fit.

I know i can get pipes and sundries at Milners for a good price,

but as this is something i have never tried before, i just wondered if there are any gotchas, or problems to be aware of before i start?

    thanks
    Adam

just a thought - i have seen a couple of posts from years back that mention this, but wanted to check - The tail pipe shown on Milners site has a small box mid pipe, yet my car does not have this...will this be a problem if i try fit this pipe?

it's dead easy - I've done it on mine twice now.

Night before, spray penetrating oil all over the nuts/bolts (makes life easier when taking it off).

Stick it on ramps but lift the drivers side only rather than the front or back. Undo the bolts from the downpipe back and wrestle the old stuff off.Be careful it's heavy

I fitted each new bit seperatly (mid section first then tailpipe) and loosly assembled them with the gaskets from Milners fitted as well as a good coating of exhaust paste.

Once everything back on the rubber hangers and adjusted so nothing banged, tightened everything up - job done.

The milner tailpipe with the little silencer will fit no probs but instead of ordering on line, give them a ring as there are often offers on with exhausts and you might get a bit knocked off.

Iv'e changed mine twice in 6 years which I don't think is bad for the money and the quality is OK, everything lined up nicely on mine.

took me most of a morning and that included gettting the old rusted nuts off (fit new brass ones)

    hope this helps

        got mine from Roughtrax.

i didnt jack the truck up, but i did use axel stands to balance the exhaust on - made it an easy one man job, rather than a swearing and cussing one man job!

dont forget to get the gasket thing.

i had to grind off the nuts as they were badly corroded. fitted new stainless ones and covered in high temp grease prior to fitting.

i had no problems as far as i recall.
