  • Engine removal

I'm breaking a 4-runner with a manual box, I stuck it on eBay and the buyer only wants the engine/box.

What's the best way to lift it out?

I've got a hoist, so I can lift it properly.

Then the rest is getting sold off until I'm bored and scrap the rest so if anyone wants anything it won't be rude money......

Take the wings off and then just cut the front end of the body off completely. You should then be able to take the engine and gearbox out in one. This is the way i do if someone wants the complete engine as it will save a lot of time taking bolts out of awkward places

      Cor! Bit brutal

Don't know how he wants to pick it up, so half a car might be a problem!

I take it it's 2 engine mounts, the gearbox mounts cut all the lines and out it comes?

Should I let him have the ECU or is that too valuable on it's own? How about body panels, is there a demand for straight wings, I know the rear side glass can be a bit expensive, but glass insurance on most policies has made this less of an issue.

LSD (leaky) is going to a mate, nothing nice about the interior apart from the load cover.

Disconnect both props and remove the transfer case from the gearbox. Then you can lift the engine and 'box out as one unit. It's what I do and saves a lot of faffing about with bell housing/starter motor/torque converter bolts (on autos)

don't throw the ecu in as its worth a good few £££'s if its an auto and works proper

when i said about cutting the front end off i meant just cut the front end of the body off so you can get to the engine easier to be able to get it out.Like Bushy said just take off the front and rear props and then you will be able to lift the engine and gearbox out together and then seperate them on the floor to make it easier to pallet up
