  • Won't idle or run properly.

This thread has the details up to now.

    http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=64301

so, fitted the new pump, exactly the same problem.
I intend to swap the injectors with yoshie's to see if it's that.

Can I strip and clean my injectors if it turns out to be the problem or do I have to get replacements?

Would the truck run perfectly (see other thread) and tick over fine if the pump timing was 180 degrees out?

The rev counter is still blipping when it runs then it shuts down, am I looking at a wiring fault elsewhere, tried the ECU swap and no joy, new pump is in and no joy, can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Change that broken VSV.

You can't clean your injectors yourself.

    When are you off?

I found the info on cleaning the injectors, I'll try yoshie's first to see if it needs done.

No, but you can try mine. Or at least the bit you broke.

              How do you clean them?

Unless all 4 injectors are failing at exactly the same time, I can't see how it's them. I still think it's electrical or vacuum related.

I have another 2 questions to throw in.

Where does the pulse for the rev counter get generated?

Are the TPSs the same on the 3.0 and 2.4 engines?

Alan did you check the lambda sensor as discussed

Never known a Lambda sensor to cause an engine to shut down, have you seen this, Gordon? It's certainly worth checking, but I'd not replace it just yet.

Its just that the speed that the revs jump down is rather quick and i thought it looked more like an electronic/ sensor fault rather than a mechanical one

Yep, I agree with the electrical/electronic fault. I'm buggered if I can think what it is though. I'd disconnect as much of the vacuum stuff I could, to eliminate that, then check the TPS. Crank position sensor is another one that's nagging at me, on my 2.4 it fell to bits when I tried to remove it, maybe something has skelped Alan's?

You don't have a Lambda sensor.

I'm with Andy, it dosn't sound like injectors, it'll run on 2 or 3 roughly, not just shut down, and not intermittantly, they normally jam open or shut, and thats it, it still feels electrical to run fine, stop, run, stop...etc...

You said the engine check light was coming on then it shut down, are you sure there are no codes?

it logs any fault that causes a check light, even if its fixed, it'll still (should! unless your really in trouble.. lol ) show what ever caused the check light it till the ECU is reset

A large intermittant air leak could do it, I'd also compression it check it cold and when hot after its died.

                            That's a point, I forgot there isn't one!

Tony, is it worth getting someone with a diagnostics machine to see what's going on. Rather than us second guessing?
