  • Rear windows AGAIN !!!!

    Help please.

My son has a problemwith rear window on his surf.
He has taken panels off rear door and has to operate the window manually to get door open / shut. Says he can hear motor turning but nothing moves.
He's bringing it to me saturday so any advance clues appreciated. tks in advance

If the motor is running then there are 3 possibilites
Teeth on the motor cog have stripped
Teeth on the mechanism are are stripped
Window has come off of it's runner

If it is the teeth stripped then a bead weld can be applied and new teeth cut with a file.

mmm thanks for the reply. what you say sounds logical. whats a bead weld? is changing the gears possible or expensive. not seen the job yet so cant envisage whats involved . is it all easy to get at/remove?

You missed the 4th possibility that the rubber drive plate has become detatched inside motor housing.

Welding and filing new teeth into the gears will be much cheaper than getting a new window actuator, getting one from a breaker and fitting it is however pretty easy, that's what I would do if the gears on mechanism are worn, replacing the motor is even easier, lots of Toyota window motors fit ie: passenger door window motor from a similar age of MR2.

            New window regulator here.

This one is an ad for a motor but it has mechanism attached, might be worth asking if it's the whole thing being sold, same guy does MR2 parts if it's just a motor you need.
