The Timing belt only has one tensioner.

      thanks mate,
its just when the belt snapped, and the garage replaced the belts, there was a bolt hanging loose in the engine bay,
      see here http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=61544

just wondering that can be related,
the bolt is out the engine bay, maybe something it was connected to, fell off

All belts need some sort of tensioner. The alternator does not need a seperate unit because the alternator itself pivots to do the tension. It will be the air con belt tensioner. It consists of a pulley with a bolt through the middle with a nut on the front mounted to a bracket and another threaded section on the back for another long threaded bolt to pass through from a section of the bracket for tensioning.

Don't worry you can buy an almost new one here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Hilux-S...item3a4f7dd5ef

a bit of blue tack and you will have it fitted in seconds.

What's this thread about? Drive belts or the timing belt?

Drive belts I suppose. His engine wouldn't be running without a cam belt tensioner.

Just wondering why he specifically mentioned Timing Belt in post 1 if he's talking about drive belts. Very misleading.
