  • Vibration

    Truck is a 3.0 third gen. I have a slight vibration/shudder
I can feel the vibration through the floor. Not through the steering wheel.

    Things I have checked/done

    Rotated wheels front to back
    Checked for play in bearings
    Checked for warped disks
Took rear prop off checks Hardy Spicer/Cardin joints and re greased
    Checked for broken springs
    All dampers renewed
Checked engine, gearbox and transfer mounts, all look fine.

Hoping you guys can suggest cause/solution

Does it do it in 2 wheel / 4 wheel drive ?
Do the tyres look oval n (not round) ?
(Short of removal)Check Front Drive shafts for damage ...
    Good Luck Brian

It's a diesel mate, they all vibrate!

Ahem, exhaust touching the body/chassis ?
Does it vibrate when stationary or only when driving?

I know it's a 14yr old tractor mate but I am sure this is not just me being over critical.

Exhaust is clear mate, it becomes noticeable above 40mph. But now I know it's there, I am sure I can feel it at even lower speeds now.
It really feels like the rear, best I can describe it, is like a slightly unbalanced prop.
It is definitely coming through the floor/body and not the steering.

Ok this s getting down the last possibilites.

Could I have lost a clutch spring, throwing the clutch out of balance?

I have eliminated most things and have had the clutch idea in my head for a while now. The clutch works as it should, but I am more and more convinced the shudder may be clutch related.

Anyone had similar on any motor?

Does it feel 'mechanical' rather than tyre related. I was gonna suggest the possibility of tyre delamination of one of the rears. Do you ever go offroad?

lol not in my powder blue hairdressers truck mate.

All the tyres are good mate and have been rotated front to rear.
Had a blether with Alan he thinks the clutch throwing a spring might be the cause as well.
He had thought the engine was running rough when he drove it but when we checked it's smooth and pulls freely. Makes me even more suspicious of the clutch. It is a mechanical shudder and we have ruled out all the obvious.

Time to buy a clutch I think.

Does it still do it at that speed, but in neutral with engine idleing? that'll rule out the clutch.

Tony tried that and yes it does, so clutch ruled out cheers mate.

                  New dampers all round
New Ball joints top and bottom
                  New track rod ends.

Still the same, could it be rear trailing arm bushes? would I see prop movement when rocking the truck in gear if they were buggered?

Prop is going in to get checked professionally, just to tick it off the list.

On the upside front end feels like a new truck.

I had a vibration brian. Turned out to be the uj.

it didn't display any movement though. It stopped taking grease, but there was no movement...till it went bang.

Alan took the truck out and agrees with Vince. It's all in ma heed it's a 14yr old truck and I have to stop being a girl. Alan says it drives sweet since we did all the front end.

A well am away for a wee 600 odd mile trip round the Highlands with the Mrs, over the next 4 days so we will see.

Aye, but he thought it was OK when a wheel nearly fell off?

Yoshie, having eliminated everything else, I think your wifes rabbit has fallen out of her handbag and rolled under the mat in the drivers footwell!
                              1) lift out mat
                              2) Find offending Rabbit
                              3) switch off and give back to better half
                              4) Replace mat
                              Problem solved!

                              good luck
