When the uj gave up on my rear prop it was only the noise that gave it away, going by feel told me nothing. I didn't have any vibration however, just a nice squeal when I reversed truck.
Rear uj near diff, got my money on it! (could be uj at transfer but hell it's 50/50!)
Alan got it in one.
U Joint at rear diff. end
Its basically disintegrating.
Took off the prop shaft and its sweet as a nut.
Checked all front end components too.
Looks OK except looks like a split boot on the off side.
Is the CV near the engine the inner or outer CV?
You only have CV'son the outside of drivshafts, the other end is the tri-bearing and drive cup and flange.
Outer boot is CV boot, inner boot is tri-bearing boot but normally called inner CV boot.
Get your new UJ and you will see how it fits, having a vice and an appropriate drift will help a lot, remeber about grease nipple location.
Make sure if you are taking prop apart to put it back together in the same way, line up the paint marks exactly or you will still have vibrations.
