Hi all, thanks for all the great advice. Sorry its taken a week to reply, I lost my internet access since I made the original post.

I don't have a temp gauge fitted, with the allisport radiator and trans cooler I didn't think it was necessary, so I will look into it.

Yea a fridge would be a great addition but I'm not sure I can justify the cost ..... I got to keep things light!!!!

Tony I will be in touch, I know its important to have surf specialist tidy up any loose end, I just can't get that kind of experience in Ireland.

I've heard a few bad stories about TJM, I suppose you hear that about all makes..... I've no intention of being stupid so I will always take the easy/safe option on my travels........ but I think I would prefer to run with ome, has anyone out there fitted them to a 3rd gen? (96)

    Once again thanks

Yep, I like the TJM stuff. Noticeably better quality that the Procomp stuff. You'll find bad stories about OME on this forum too. Like OP says, everything comes in for a bashing, but my TJM shocks and hubs have been good as gold!

I would take a spares package, You'll mostly find toyota pickups and LandCrusier Amazons everywhere, and these arn't the same as your L/C Colorado based truck. At the very least go through Milners website and see what parts have the same part numbers, and what is special to your truck. Also you've never break down somewhere convienent, it'll always be days or miles away from rescue, its sods law.. At least filters, brake pads, belts, UJ's and rear wheel bearings, and the tools to change them.

Rear wheel bearings... hur hur hur...

Deffo take one! Lost 3 days of our Pyrenees trip stuck in central northern spain while the locals sourced / fitted one. Even if you cant fit one yourself, at least you can just hand the bits to a local mechanic and point at the rear axle!

        Cheers Apache,

Good advice!! thanks but one question, have your tjm seen dusty roads? I really need to trust the brand, I have to forget about the marketing!!

To be honest I have #### all money to waste on loyalty I'm a toyota man and the less I spend on improvements the more I have to spend on my travels... happy days!!!! ..... as much as i LOVE my surf, its a tool to see the world ....... don't get me wrong if I do change something it has to be the best, why else would i buy a 3rd gen surf ..... whats the point otherwise??

At the moment I have a 14 year old truck

Any experience with 3rd gen dampers & springs????

I know there is a lot of cross over advice between 2nd and 3rd gen but i really want make sure if i do something, it's right, I can't take the cash with me and if it means i have to delay the trip for a few months so be it!!

All advice is very welcome!! the way i see it we have the last of the true 4x4, its important to enjoy them as much as possible, what ever we do with them!!

Trust me when your paying 1300 euro road tax a year (Ireland) and you see all the big engines disappear around you, you wonder if it's worth it....... yea, it is big time!!!!!

        FYI
from dubai: my grandfather had a camel, my father had a mercedes, i have a mercedes and my son has a Bentley but unfortunately my grand son will have a camel ...................

But I've had all sorts of Suspension systems over the past 30 years. And OME are by far the best I've had.
Def. get what you pay for and well worth the extra money.
          Good Luck.

Thanks Siobodan for the advice, from Ireland tbruk look good value with the GBP v EURO rate at the moment, I've always tried buy the best i can afford and from what i've picked up over the last few years (horizonsunlinited & hiluxsurf.co.uk) i should be looking at ome, your 100% spot on I know 0% about this, well at least with rugby,I know its munster...... a different story ;-)

its cool, you need to fit what you're most comfortable with. I have never supplied OME stuff for anyone, so don't have an experianced opinion on it, I've seen them on trucks i've worked on, and have replaced knackered OME shocks, but also stock and other brands to.

We chose to recommend Procomp for good value for money, and TJM if you wanted something backed by a decent warrenty. But will fit what ever the customer wants, you're always right of course...

There are loads of makes out there, but very few that are easy to get hold of reliably in the UK, so just went with the about 2.

It was Frog's Island 4x4 in Abingdon that I dealt with.
I can't remember the manager/owner's name, but I dealt with him by email. He answered all my questions promptly and accurately.
I have since changed the OME shocks (gone higher) and now run Rubicon Express, Which don't seem to offer the same level of comfort.
But I still see my old Shocks on a jeep in town, (4th owner of them)

Yes, eastern end was so dusty at times you had to drop way back from the truck in front to see where you were going. Fit boots, no chance of dust ingress.

As others have said though, fit what you're comfortable with, and why not keep a couple of the OEMs you take off as emergency 'get you there' spares. Small enough to strap onto the roof rack in some random gap
