  • Unwanted indicator beeping - short circuit?

Posting this before I've done a proper investigation, as I'll have the Surf in a friends garage in a couple of days and want to know where to start looking.

The truck's started beeping when the indicator's on. It's similar to the reverse beeper, but I think it's coming from the tail gate. It sounds when the indicator light is lit on the dash, and varies in pitch and volume, sometimes not sounding at all.

I suspect an intermittent short circuit between the indicator system and either the reversing beeper, or the beeper which I seem to remember sounds when you attempt to lower the rear window with the key, when the wiper isn't properly stowed. It seems to be affected by cold/wet, so I suspect it's shorting through a damp area with broken insulation.

The rear demister recently packed up again, so I suspect there is a problem with the wiring loom where it enters the tail gate. But since the indicator's aren't in the tailgate, I'm a bit stumped where the actual short might be.

    Any suggestions?

Have you got a towbar and electrics on the truck? If so then i would say its something to do with the electrics as there will be a beeping if a trailer was connected up

Bashing it off rocks and then filling it with salty snow might be the culprit

Will post back after the examination.
