hi what should i do? lots of white smoke on start up and clears after 20 mins, had car 8 weeks from dealer in glasgow and its using coolant about 250ml a week. like it but what next

TAKE IT BACK!
It shouldn't be using any coolant at all.
Someone will be along shortly to tell you the most likely problems, but it's down to the dealer to sort!!

phoned the dealer offered to do it at trade price, contacted trading standards.. what a mess greta jeep but put me off a bit.

He sold you a Surf of non saleable quality, no arguing. Tell (don't ask, tell) him to fix it or give you your money back.

Insist he takes it back, nothing less, dont let him fix it or try to fix it. It could be something simple like a rad pinhole or rear heater supply leak, but it could be and more likely is the dreaded head. Theres certainly enough symptoms to scare me. He could "fix" or mask that temporarily with some snake oil stuff, so its best he simply takes it back. No discussion, no negotiation.
I would personally ( grudgingly) accept my money back, less a few quid for the pleasure of 8 weeks use rather than accept this vehicle.

dealer was NIDDRIE motor company, swapped a 2000 audi a4 quattro sport turbo for it which he still has.. said to phone him late morning today after he speaks to the owner.. sorry for the term jeep but we are all human and it was the original athough japan has shown the way.. thanks for the support
