This is why I hate selling a car ! The fuel filter was changed in July along with a full service and full vehicle survey (me paranoid ?) have to say didn't suffer any power loss ...had to change an indicator bulb and a radiator and stuff No veg oil just pure Esso diesel with redex inDeath rides a Black Horse

Not sure if surf has electronic fuel pump or not but once had a landy with same problem. Tried everthing, new filter, new pump all sorts. It occured to me after i sold it that there may have been an alternator fault in turn causing a lack of power to the fuel pump whenever I needed extra gas to say get up a hill. This happened every time I gave it extra gas to go up hill. The engine would slowly die and cut out (as if starved of fuel). Give it 5 mins and it would run again. If I turned the ignition on and pulled the fuel pipe off it would pump plenty of fuel untill the next hill. just a thought, never had the chance to prove the theory as i sold it on at a substantial loss.In space no one can hear you scream

Highly unlikely to be the fuel filter if it was changed in July although the Boshi ones from Milners are not the best.
My mate had the same problem on his 2.4 LN130 and found that it was a general build up of dirt in the fuel system, he ended up flushing the fuel tank through and fitting a genuine fuel filter. Its been fine ever since.
Check the turbo to intake manifold hose isn't split and hasn't popped off and also check that the air filter isn't clogged.En Ferus Hostis. Be your own man. Follow nobody.

Jay, I've just rung the garage mechanic, he said check the electronic stuff next to the fuse box a lead may be loose its those white cables all hooked up to the box set at an angle on the left hand side (facing front) the sport electronic ignition stuff (sorry for the crap technical terminology !)Death rides a Black Horse

ours does that then the filter in the tank gets clogged, blowing back to the tank from the fuel filter with an airline cures it.
the engine light comes on cos you don't have enough fuel pressure for the revs you are giving it, but you have enough to idle or go slow, so the light goes out again when you back off.
it could be others things, but change the fuel filter, and clear the fuel lines to the tank, and then check the small filter behind the fuel temp sender on the fuel pump before getting to worried.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

They're supposed to last a year or 20000km, just shows you.
I change mine every 5000km along with the oil and oil filter. Glad that you got to the bottom of it. You'll have many great miles in the truck, I was just thinking when I was out earlier today about just how good the Surf is to drive. I can't think of anything (within reason) that I'd rather be driving at the moment.En Ferus Hostis. Be your own man. Follow nobody.
